Do I need a referral to access The Sensory Hive?

No - you do not need a referral to access our services.

If you are (or care for) a disabled or neurodivergent young person or adult, and wish to use our facility, please get in touch with us hello@thesensoryhive.co.uk 
We may be able to offer more suitable or quieter sessions midweek for young people and adults who wish to use the Sensory Gym, Sorcha's Sanctuary, or the Therapy Space.

If you wish to use the sensory gym, you do not need a referral. This is open access and can be booked on our booking page https://bookwhen.com/thesensoryhive (https://bookwhen.com/thesensoryhive)

If you wish to access our private OT services, you can self-refer by completing our online referral form found on our website under 'Our Offer.'

How do I book a room?

Accepted Answer

All of our rooms (except for the Therapy Space) are accessible during a Sensory Gym Session.

If you wish to privately hire Sorcha's Sanctuary (Immersive Room) or the Therapy Space (available to the general public only - not available for therapists) please contact us hello@thesensoryhive.co.uk

Question 4

Can I bring a sibling to accompany my disabled or neurodivergent child?

Accepted Answer

Yes - siblings are more than welcome. If they are caring for their brother or sister whilst they play, you do not need to pay for them. However, of they are also playing, then we kindly request that you book them a place and pay for their play session

Can I self-refer for OT services?

Accepted Answer

Yes - although these are self-funded,  in high demand and there is often a waiting list.

Do you have nappy and pad changing facilities?

Yes - we have a nappy changing unit and a height adjustable changing table (bed) for older children and adults.

We also have a portable hoist should you need it. You must provide assurances that you are adequately trained in moving and handling to use the portable hoist, read our risk assessment and sign a disclaimer form.

Question 9

Is the centre accessible for wheelchair users?

Accepted Answer

The centre is on one level with no steps to enter and exit.

We have a changing room with changing table and portable hoist.

Most of the centre is accessible with the exception of the mezzanine floor as a padded staircase is used to access this. The sensory circuit area has a padded floor and is therefore not suitable for wheelchairs.

Sorcha's Sanctuary is most popular for wheelchairs users as there is plenty of space to explore, use the portable hoist and generally move around the more freely. We also have a therapy rocking chair and a large beanbag; both are ideal for some quality time out of the wheelchair.

We have recently installed carpeted steps and handrails to enable better access to the trampoline for those who have some mobility.

We can also provide access to the Therapy Space if it is available during a public gym session and we have a wheelchair user who wishes to use the hammock swing or ball pit.

Question 10

Do parents or carers have to pay to attend?

No - all young people and adults who are in a caring role are free to attend.
